The middle school core academic program includes instruction in English, reading and social studies. To support the transition from elementary to high school, middle school students have one teacher for these core classes. The core classroom teacher helps students learn social skills as well as work and study habits that will enable them to be successful learners in high school.
The mathematics curriculum helps students become problem solvers and builds a foundation for more advanced math courses. The science curriculum focuses on physical and environmental issues in preparation for IB science courses offered at the high school. Students become actively involved in the scientific process as they investigate the world around them.
The development of computer skills and the use of technology are integrated into the regular middle school classroom instruction. Students make use of classroom computers as well as computer lab instruction to complete daily activities and learn to use computers to help them reach their goals in each activity.
Middle school students also continue instruction in music, art, physical education, and Brazilian history and geography. Depending on their language ability, students will be enrolled in Portuguese or Portuguese as a second language (PSL), and English or English as a second language (ESL) classes.
